Salmon Come Home Event - Sunday, October 25, 2009 11 to 3 a.m.
Salmon Come Home is a free annual event held each fall at the Hoy Creek hatchery site (follow the path between 2975 & 2980 Princess Crescent on Hoy Creek) across from the City Centre Aquatic Complex. This event is sponsored by the City of Coquitlam in partnership with the Hoy/Scott Watershed Society.
Salmon Come Home celebrates the return of salmon to their spawning grounds in Hoy Creek after their long journey home. This family event provides the opportunity to learn about the local environment while participating in various salmon and nature oriented activities.
Activities throughout the day include:
* Observing salmon spawning
* Guided nature walks hosted by Burke Mountain Naturalists
* Salmon demonstrations by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans
* Fishing prize pond by Vancity
* Performances by children's entertainer Chris Hamilton
* Informative displays and activities hosted by local community groups
* Face painting and children's arts and crafts
* Concession
There is free parking available at Coquitlam City Hall, located at the corner of Guildford and Pinetree Way, which is a short walk to the event site. Follow the signs to the hatchery.
This event is held rain or shine.
