The Hoy/Scott watershed encompasses a large area of North Coquitlam. Starting high up on Eagle mountain, through Westwood Plateau and the Town Center region. It helps to think of the watershed as a large interconnected system than as small individual creeks and tributaries. What happens upstream can a huge impact downstream.
The large population and development in the area directly and indirectly impact the watershed system. A car that leaks oil in the town center area or a tree planted up on Westwood Plateau all affect the quality of the watershed.

The plants and trees in the watershed help to regulate the water flow in Hoy Scott creek. As opposed to a parking lot where water flows into the creek immediately the trees hold water and release it at a more moderate flow.
The runoff of chemicals and oil entering the creeks have a negative impact on the quality of the water.

The quality of the water in the creek affects the amount of aquatic life the creek can support, from insects to fish. The insects and fish then support birds and mammals.

The watershed is an interconnected system that can be helped or hurt by everyone in Northeast Coquitlam.

Stewardship of Hoy and Scott Creeks not only benefits our local communities, but in a small way, the entire province.  Improved salmon habitat, a sustainable environment, and salmon enhancement, will contribute to the population of coho salmon.  Improved salmon stalks support tourism, (recreation related activities, such as fishing), business, and food sources for native and local populations.
